Physical implementation techniques, performance evaluation and applications on digital libraries and World Wide Web will be covered.

Course Objective

After completing the course, students will have acquired: (1) theory as well as practices of text retrieval systems, (2) hands-on experience in building essential document retrieval functions, and (3) knowledge in the future trend of information retrieval, and (4) knowledge in advanced applications such as world-wide-web and digital library.

Pre-requisites/Background needed: COMP 251 and COMP 271
